The Good Eats Section was derived from my new plan to eat delicious food from local, non-chain restaurants as I journey about the world. While I will always hold a special place in my heart for the Big Mac; it is time for me to get out of the box:
U.S. Locations:
Name: Sage
Location: 2558 Lankford Highway Onley, VA
Type of Fare: Diner
Menu Items: Turkey Club and Reuben Burger
Comments: Huge portions, dive-restaurant decorated in the 1970's
Repeat: Yes
Name: Aloha BBQ
Location: 5260 Princess Anne Road Virginia Beach (5-6 miles from the coast)
Type of Fare: Thai/Hawaian
Menu Items: Pineapple Chicken Fried Rice, Mahi-Mahi, Chicken, and Shrimp Combo, and Aloha Tea
Comments: Converted chain restaurant building that now serves as a local Thai families restaurant. Food was excellent (fried). The Aloha Tea (assumed pineapple in iced tea) was actually Thai Tea which is rich and milky. I would reccomend going with a small, sharing it, and ordering a large glass of water!

Name: Giovanni's
Location: 2006 Atlantic Avenue, Virginia Beach
Type of Fare: Italian
Menu Items: Delicious housebread with seasoned olive oil, Ceasar Salad for Two, and a Strombolli
Comments: After a day at the beach, we stumbled into a standard strip Italian joint on the main drag in VA Beach. We assumed the worst and got the best. Excellent homemade bread, fresh crisp salad, and a tasty strombolli with a thin meat sauce for dipping. I would love to sample their pizzas. Don't be turned off by the Eastern European help. An Italian has to be in the kitchen!

Name: Old Forge Grille
Location: 9101 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, Virginia 23140
Type of Fare: Diner/Homestyle
Menu Items: 2 orders of rich, thick dried beef gravy over toast
Comments: Besides my mothers, I have never had dried beef gravy this good! Each serving came with 4 pieces of toast, drenched in gravy goodness. I can't eat it everyday, but I will eat it everytime I go near Pocohontas Trail.
Repeat: Yes
Name: Los Potrillos
Location: 90 Riverton Commons Plz, Front Royal, VA 22630
Type of Fare: Mexican
Menu Items: Enchilladas and Shredded Beef Tacos with greene salsa
Comments: After a long journey through the Shenandoah Valley, I was hunkering for some Mexican. While Western Virginia is certainly not the ideal source, Los Potrillos quenched my hunger. Mexican was standard, but service was great in a full house. Chips and Salsa were barely touched before dinner was on the table.

Name: Jubilee Junction
Location: 254 Maple St. Friendsville, Maryland off of 77.
Type of Fare: Diner/Homestyle/Pizza
Menu Items: Meatball splash, Jubilee Burger, and fresh cut fries
Comments: Friendsville is a quaint little town with only one restaurant which can be found by looking for the large "Food" sign on the roof. Jubilee Junction is a cultural center hosting local musicians on the weekends. It also serves pizza without charging for toppings! The restaurant also does its own fresh cut french fries! The time it takes to get your meal is well worth it. The cooks are in the back slicing your fries.
